Today was my first day at King's! It was a pretty busy day, but not really because of fun things--more because there was a lot of administrative work left to do to finish enrolling. First thing in the morning I have classes (9 am-12 pm), and our dorm is about a 30 minute walk from the classroom so I had to get up around 7 in order to do my hair and makeup, pick an outfit, and eat some quick breakfast. When I got downstairs I noticed some girls standing around so I asked if they were going to the same place and turns out they're in my class! They were super nice and they had gone here for the first summer session, too, so they knew their way around already. Another girl who walked with us was in my same boat, being here for the first time and taking our same class. After we got to the campus we had our first (very short) class! It was mostly just an introductory lecture, but I can already tell that this is a very different class than it has been in years past with a HUGE focus on terrorism instead of profiling as much, and I just hope that I can catch on quickly to what's going on because a lot of the other students in the class have a more political background than I do. The girls I walked with have like 10 other friends in the class, all from UNC Chapel Hill, and they all seem super cool! After class they all left, though, and I got stuck with the first day-ers. With a few other people we ran some errands and then headed back to the dorm. On our way we got 3 pound sandwich meal deals from Tesco, which are actually pretty tasty! After resting in the dorms for a while, we headed back to campus for enrollment where I got my King's ID card! I think it's pretty cool that we get an official school ID just to go here for 3 weeks-now I have school IDs from 3 different schools :) There was an awkward amount of time between enrollment and our welcome talk, so we explore Gabriel's Wharf, which was nearby and has lots of cute little shops and restaurants and some beachfront area. I was pretty tired, so I headed back to the dorm AGAIN to rest, and then went back to campus AGAIN for the welcome talk, which ended up being completely pointless because it had all the same information we were given in our morning lecture. On the way back I stopped at Tesco again to do some real shopping. I only spent 15 pounds but I got 2 meal deals, 2 microwaveable pasta dishes, chicken tenders, and a pizza! Pretty good deal! That was pretty much it for the first day because by the end of it it was already evening and I was exhausted, but it got me excited for everything to come!
